When the Board of Directors last met on May 5, André Aubert, Local Councilor and Member of the Board of Directors, showed the sketch of the lay-out planned by the Local Council :

• The Monument should take place on a traffic circle to be built in 2001 at the city limit, on the main way to Coutances. While waiting for the end of the works, the Monument would be temporary located in front of the Tollemer house.
• From this spot, trees planted along the old railway (converted into a pedestrian way) would make an alignment naturally catching the look towards the renewed railway station. The trees could be oaks, says André Aubert. But as they are growing very slowly, another kind of trees growing faster could be added in the first few years and "would help the oaks to grow straight". This lane would come in place of the "Memorial Wood" previously planned around the Memorial Place, and would then take the name of Memory Walk (127 trees for the 127 casualties of the fights in June and July 1944).
• The plan for the restoration of the railway station is scheduling to keep to the outlook of the building its relevance with trains, and some outside fittings out would be possibly added (a few meters of railroad line, a wagon ...?). The inside would be laid out as a room of remembrance dedicated to the 90th Division. Most parts of all these suggestions received an agreement from Mayor Didier Lecerf and his Local Council during the last meeting with the Association officials held on May 18, 1999 at the City Hall.
• Look at the location on our City map of Périers, and on the Memorial detailed map.

According to the Local Council, this room of remembrance could be divided into several parts :

• One part for the keeping of all the information that would be opened to everyone wishing to make searches, to students and school groups.
• One part for the display of the most representative artifacts and explanations of their history. A further information could be given through a video system making the visit more enjoyable.
• One part for the accommodation of the local library (or intervillage one) where a special place could be spared for the books especially dealing with WW2.

  Will there be enough room in the old railway station? An architect and an expert in museums should be asked for the design of the project.

We still are at a planning stage. We would like to thank the Town Council that actually committed itself to support us and set up the network of administrative and parlementary connections that should help us to reach the complete achievement.
